A diocesan priest is ordained to provide pastoral services, proclaim God's Word, and be the minister of the Sacraments. The Eucharist is the center of a priest's life and ministry.

Diocesan priests are involved in a variety of other works as well, most often related to the life of the parish community.

It is said that a diocesan priest "is someone who lives with the people and each become a part of the other's life." The role of a diocesan priest is to serve the individuals and families within his parish - he is the spiritual leader of that community and is closely connected with it.
